Tools
This section contains an illustrative compilation of tools applied in the verification practice of existing arms control and disarmament agreements. The purpose of this compilation is to provide an overview of “the range and scope of methods, procedures and techniques applicable to the verification of compliance,” as recommended by the GGE on nuclear disarmament verification in their report (A/78/120) as issues warranting further exploration. This page is not intended as a comprehensive overview of all available tools. It is important to note that verification regimes should be tailored to the specific scope, objectives, and purpose of each agreement. This section is composed of excerpts from UNDIR’s arms control and disarmament lexicon and verification handbook. Where relevant, complementary information has been included directly from official United Nations sources. A collection of additional resources is also provided for each item for further exploration.
